Some people think of caravans as something temporary but in reality it’s your home from home and contains many of the mod cons you have in your house.  Therefore your caravan should be as safe as houses.

Here is a list of just some of the measures you can take to protect your caravan

Remove the spare wheel

Remove your CRiS documents

Remove expensive, lightweight items such as TVs and DVDs

Lock all windows, doors and close the rooflights

Make sure you have a wheelclamp fitted and/or wheel locks. 

Check the hitchlock is down

Extra Options

Get a caravan alarm

Get a GPS caravan tracking system

What to do if your caravan is stolen

Notify the police and have your CRiS number to hand and chassis numbers. 
Inform CRiS that your van has been stolen by calling 01722 411430 (this can only be done by phone)
Let other caravanners know that there are thieves operating in the area by word of mouth and caravan forums.
Keep a look out on EBAY and local classifieds.  Inform local caravan dealers

Caravanners Rescue from West Sands Caravan Park

30 caravanners had to be rescued from the sea front caravan park in West Sussex.  Large waves breeched the sea defences at the West Sands Caravan Park in Selsey and RNLI and fire crews were called out to rescue the remaining residents.

Many of the 2,200 static caravans had been washed off their standings has huge waves battered the coast in this weeks storms.  Thankfully nobody was injured and all residents were evacuated to safety.

The Newark Spring Fair

The UK Motorhome and Caravan Spring Fair will be taking place on the 15th and 16th of March this year at the Newark Showground, Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire.

The show has indoor and outdoor sections.  As well as 2008 new models and accessories there will also be a craft fair and entertainment for all the family.  During the day there will be a display by the Zero Gravity Freestyle Trials Bike team, The Ghosts of the Night and the opportunity to meet Geoff Capes.

For those who choose to camp then there will be night entertainment available which include comedy, music and quizzes.

Britain’s Slowest Caravanner?

James Conner, Leeds, 32 has been given a 90 day jail sentence for towing his caravan at an incredible speed of 10mph on the M1.  Moreover, he didn’t have a driving licence!!  He also had three children and 6 dogs with him.  When questioned as to the reason he was going so slow he told the court that he had assumed that the police were escorting him and not trying to pull him over as the real case was.Mr Conners accepted charges of driving without insurance whilst disqualified and also dangerous driving and was subsequently sentenced to 3 months jail.

Connors appealed against his sentence.

Caravan Club Caravan Design Awards 2008

The Caravan Club has announced the winners of this years Caravan Design Awards at the 2008 Caravan Show at the NEC.  A total of 58 candidates were presented and a panel was made up of independent judges and technical experts.

The purpose of the awards is to give club members a fair evaluation of this years new models.
The vehicles are judged and graded according to comfort, space, kitchen design, swithches, wiring, storage and repair back up and warranty conditions.
