The Caravan Registration and Identification Scheme (CRiS) was created in 1992 but the National Caravan Club in conjunction with Equifax.  It is a database of caravans and their owners.  Electronic tagging was introduced in 1997.  Every caravan in the database is given a unique 17 digit code known as Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

When buying a second hand caravan then you should always check the CRiS number.  This allows you to check the owner is the seller and also tells you if the van has any outstanding credit.

CRiS is available by phone only on 01722 411 430

Step One

Obtain the CRiS number which is etched onto the caravan window. (also on the chassis)

Step Two

Ask the seller for the CRiS certificate
Step Three

Carry out a HPI check www.hpicheck.com/newfrontend/caravans_boats.jsp
